What is the Witt Varimixer TEDDY?
TEDDY is Varimixer’s stand mixer for ambitious home cooks. Varimixer has built professional mixers for more than 100 years, and TEDDY is made the same way: a strong motor, solid gearing and planetary mixing that works the whole bowl. It kneads up to 3.5 kg of dough and comes in two sizes, TEDDY 5.4 L and TEDDY 7 L.
What is the difference between TEDDY 5.4 L and TEDDY 7 L - and which should I choose?
Both have the same motor, and both knead up to 3.5 kg of dough. TEDDY 7 L has a bigger 7-litre bowl, a digital timer with an illuminated display and an attachment drive at the front, for example for the Meat Mincer. If you mainly knead dough and like a more compact bowl, TEDDY 5.4 L is a great fit. If you often whip cream, egg whites or cake batter in larger amounts, or want the timer or a meat mincer, go for TEDDY 7 L.
How much dough can TEDDY knead - and can it handle heavy bread and pizza dough?
Up to 3.5 kg in one go, with both models - up to 40% more than the previous TEDDY. Pizza, bread and other heavy doughs are exactly what it’s built for, and it keeps going when the dough gets stiff. The dough hook folds and stretches the dough from the edge to the centre, so everything is kneaded evenly.
How much cream or egg whites can TEDDY whip at once?
TEDDY 5.4 L whips up to 1.5 litres of cream or 20 egg whites in one batch. TEDDY 7 L handles up to 2 litres of cream or 24 egg whites. Both take around 5 minutes on the highest speed.
How loud is TEDDY?
Not very. At the lowest speed TEDDY runs at 52 dB, and even at full speed under load it stays at 68 dB - about the level of a normal conversation.
What is included with TEDDY?
Everything you need to get started: a stainless-steel bowl (5.4 or 7 litres, depending on the model), a dough hook, a flat beater and a whisk, plus a splash guard, a filling chute and a bowl lid. You also get two power cords - one with a Danish plug and one with a Schuko plug.
How powerful is TEDDY?
Very - but not in the way most mixers are measured. True mixer performance isn’t measured in watts, it’s measured in torque: the force that actually reaches the dough. Compared with the previous TEDDY, the new model has more torque at every speed tested: more than 40% more at high speed, and up to 133% more at its peak.
How many speeds does TEDDY have?
The dial is marked 1 to 5, but there are no fixed steps - you can stop anywhere in between and set exactly the speed you need. As a rule of thumb: 1-2 for kneading dough, up to 3 for mixing, and up to 5 for whipping. Turn the speed up gradually to avoid flour dust and splashes. The top speed is up to 20% higher than on the previous TEDDY.
Does TEDDY have a timer?
Yes, TEDDY 7 L has a digital timer with an illuminated LED display in the control dial. Set the time with the arrow buttons - in 30-second steps, and in 1-minute steps from 10 minutes - up to 99 minutes. TEDDY stops by itself when the time is up, so you can get on with something else. If you don’t set a time, it counts up instead, which makes it easy to repeat a good result next time. TEDDY 5.4 L doesn’t have a timer.
Is TEDDY safe to use?
TEDDY only starts when the top is lowered and locked, and the top can only be lifted when the dial is turned to the lock symbol. It also has a child lock, non-slip feet and protection against overcurrent and overvoltage. Children from 8 years can use TEDDY under supervision.
Does TEDDY stay stable and cool under heavy loads?
Yes. The base is reinforced and the feet are non-slip, so TEDDY stays put even with heavy dough and long mixing times. Cooling and ventilation keep the temperature stable, and TEDDY can run for up to 99 minutes at a time. If the load gets too heavy, TEDDY reduces power and stops to protect the motor - turn the dial back to neutral and start again.
How do I clean TEDDY, and does it need maintenance?
The stainless-steel bowl and all three tools can go in the dishwasher. Wipe the machine itself with a damp cloth - don’t rinse it under water or spray it. TEDDY needs no maintenance: the motor and bearings are greased for life.
